In Support of the Sierra Club

I want to take this opportunity to advocate for a recent study, “Green Recovery: A Program to Create Good Jobs and Start Building a Low Carbon Economy,” completed by the Sierra Club. As we are all too well aware, our environment is in danger, our climate at severe risk and the health of our earth is perilous. We must take steps to remedy this situation for our children and grandchildren.

There can be no doubt that we must develop alternatives to our dependence on oil, foreign or domestic. Fossil fuel is hazardous to the atmosphere and creates adverse climate change. Developing alternative fuels is imperative and we must be willing to make a real investment in this critical area. Studies such as this one that encourage public private partnerships so the best possible clean energy economic stimulus package can be developed for both the Commonwealth and the entire country, are an important beginning.

We must recognize that economic growth and environmental protection should and will go hand in hand. This study is one step in demonstrating this important concept and I am pleased to add my avid support for it.
